Alan William Schultz

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 am at St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, 12 Holly Hills Dr., Woodstock, NY.

Alan William Schultz, 79, of Olive Bridge, NY, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Dec. 23, 2024, at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, NY, after a short illness. Born Feb. 23, 1945, in Schenectady, he graduated from Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady and earned a degree in Biochemistry at Marist College in Poughkeepsie. He worked for over 35 years for the NYC Department of Water Supply at the Ashokan Reservoir, beginning as a chemist in 1966 and eventually becoming director of the Ben Nesin Laboratory.

Alan's life was marked by adventure and service. He proudly served in the Navy as a corpsman from 1968 to 1972, notably caring for the Blue Angels at Pensacola Naval Base. He met his wife, Linda, of 45 years, at Great Lakes Naval Base. A talented pilot and dedicated aviation instructor, he shared his passion for flying with countless students over 40 years of teaching. He taught at Sky Park in Red Hook and Kingston Ulster Airport in Kingston. He had many interests and enjoyed doing them with friends and family. He was an avid runner and proud member of the Onteora Runners Club. He also played on the Volleyball League through the Kingston YMCA for more than 30 years. Other favorite pastimes included boating, hunting and horse racing, but his greatest joy was attending his grandkids' sporting events. The cheering section at these events won't be the same without him. Alan is survived by his ex-wife, Linda, and their three daughters: Kristine Schultz of Ballston Spa, NY, Juliane Mitchell of Bakersfield, VT, and Alana Denter of Chichester, NY. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren and his sister, Carol Schultz of Schenectady, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Corporate Angel Network or Pilots to the Rescue .

Alan's warm and affable nature endeared him to many, and he will be deeply missed. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
