Alfred Thomas Frontera, MD, FAAN, FACP, 79, of Kingston, NY, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024, at his home in Indian Shores, Florida.  He is survived by his wife, Veronica, two children, Jennifer (and her husband Joe) and Tom (and his wife Cherie), four granddaughters, Liliana, Bridget, Grace, and Audrey, as well as his sister Ann Rial (and her husband Jim) and brother Bill Frontera, along with a myriad of friends and cousins.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, and a graduate of Xaverian high school, Fordham College and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Dr. Frontera was the first neurologist to establish a practice in Kingston, NY in 1975, as founding partner of Kingston Neurological Associates, P.C.  He also maintained an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where he previously completed his neurological residency.  He was the Founder and Director of both the Northern Dutchess Hospital and Benedictine Hospital Rehabilitation Units, and served as the President of the Medical & Dental Staff of both Kingston Hospital and Benedictine Hospital from 1982-1985, as well as President of the Ulster County Medical Society.  In addition, Dr. Frontera was a member of the Board of Trustees of both Kingston and Benedictine Hospitals from 1981-1990.  He later served as Medical Director of Kingston Hospital from 2005-2009.

After moving to Florida in 2013, he became Chief of Neurology at the C.W. Young Bay Pines Veterans' Hospital in Bay Pines, Florida, Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Central Florida, and Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of South Florida.  He was deeply involved in medical student and resident physician education throughout his career and was instrumental in bringing medical students from across Florida to train at the Bay Pines Veterans' Hospital.  Dr. Frontera was a beloved educator and mentor to generations of physicians and even inspired both of his children to follow in his footsteps as neurologists.

Outside of medicine, he enjoyed reading, antiquing, gardening, and socializing with his friends (particularly his "second son" Dr. Eugene Heslin).  Most importantly, he was a cherished husband, father, brother, cousin, and friend to many, and his wit, wisdom, and counsel will be greatly missed.

In 2015, Dr. Frontera and his wife Veronica were invested as Knight and Dame of the Order of Malta.  This lay Catholic Order is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the poor, sick, and incarcerated, and supports medical and humanitarian activities throughout the world, particularly in regions of war and conflict.
