Family and friends will be received at Riverview Baptist Church on Friday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

A Homegoing Celebration will be celebrated at 12:00 PM.

Entombment will follow at Wiltwyck Rural Cemetery.

Celebration of A Wonderful Life

Annie Mae Lowery Knox was born on September 17, 1931 in York, South Carolina to the late Sam and Mozell Matthews Lowery. She transitioned from this early life on January 31, 2023 with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.

Annie Mae was educated in the South Carolina Public Schools. She relocated to North Carolina and settled in Gastonia in her early adult years. Having accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, she became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and served in several capacities. During this period, she was employed by Sunshine Laundry.

In 1970 Annie Mae relocated to Kingston, New York. In Kingston she immediately became a member of Riverview Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful and devoted member of the flock. She loved serving and assisting the Pastor wherever needed. A few of her prize ministries were HELPING HAND MINISTRY, MISSION MINISTRY and LEAD SERVANT (SARGE) OF THE CULINARY MINISTRY. Her motto was "you have tried the rest, now try the best". She was the best cook on this side of Heaven and mentored many in the kitchen.

Early on Annie Mae was employed by the Golden Hill Nursing Home. She was employed by Benedictine Hospital for 21 years. After retiring from Benedictine Hospital, she joined the staff of Kingston Hospital and retired from the Dietary Department in 2021 after 27 years. She was a stellar employee who walked to work, if need be, in inclement weather. She had an impeccable work ethic and her motto was "I would rather call out than be late".

Annie Mae worked hard and she played hard. She enjoyed dancing to the Blues and was the life of a party. She stayed young by hanging out with the youth of the family providing a 'no judgment zone'.

Annie Mae, was fondly known as, "Mama", "Nanny", "Gangster", "Raggedy Annie" "Grandma" and "Aunt Annie Mae". She is survived by 2 daughters Shirley Ann Knox of Gastonia, North Carolina, Ethel Lavonne Knox of Kingston, New York and son Richard Earl (Margie) Knox of Kingston, New York.

She was preceded in death by 3 children, Samuel Louis, Arthur Lee and Terri Dean Knox.

She is also survived by siblings, Nathaniel (Lena) Lowery of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Zenobia E. Campbell and Bertha L. Lowery of Gastonia, North Carolina and Carrie E. Lowery of New York, New York.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Macie L. Bagley, Frances J. Wilson and Joanna Thomas (adopted).

Annie Mae was blessed with 28 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, and 50 great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memory.
