Audrey Marie (Dickson) Porter

Friends will be received on Friday June 19th from 10-11 AM at the Bethel AME Church in Coxsackie.

Audrey Marie (Dickson) Porter was born at home in Coxsackie, New York on November 5, 1937 to the late Arthur and Dorothy Dickson. Audrey was educated in her hometown of Coxsackie and graduated with the class of 1954. Soon after graduating, she began a long and honorable career as a New York civil servant with the Department of Workers Compensation. In 1970, Audrey wed Frederick Porter and together they enjoyed a beautiful 48-year marriage until his passing in 2018.

Audrey accepted Christ at an early age and as generations of Dicksons had before her, served at the historic Bethel AME Church. There, she filled many different roles during her lifetime. As a choir member she would minister through music at the prison, nursing homes and sister churches throughout the capital region. With Fred manning the pit, Audrey served the community at the annual barbecues. Audrey volunteered her time at Bethel’s biweekly food pantry to serve Coxsackie residents. Audrey was a blessing to her family and cherished by those who called her friend. Audrey was a fixture in her community. You could find her at the bingo hall, Snookies, the local library or most certainly on Whitbeck Street. She enjoyed drum corps competitions, visits to Saratoga and family gatherings.

Audrey is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Dorothy Dickson; brothers, Arthur, Luzerne, Gerald, Delbert, and Stanley Dickson; sisters, Lorraine Dunckle, Joyce Heath, and Beverly Porter; three infant brothers; and Godson, Curtis Dunckle.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory two brothers, Eugene (Ruth Ann) Dickson of Coxsackie, New York; Bernard Dickson of Schenectady, New York; a sister, Lucretia Bowie of Albany, New York; her Goddaughters, Cynthia Dickson of Greenfield, Massachusetts and Nicole Westbrook of Willow Spring, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, Bethel church family and friends.
