Barbara J. Schabot

A graveside service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 29 ^th at 2:00pm at the Wiltwyck Rural Cemetery, 205 West O'Reilly Street, Kingston, NY 12401.

Barbara J. (Kilmer) Schabot, 87, current resident of White River Junction, VT and formerly of Kingston, NY passed away peacefully on April 16 ^th , 2023 to reunite with her beloved husband, Edward Schabot, Jr. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Paul and her sister Bette Schabot of SC.

Born February 1, 1936 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward Kilmer and Edith (Edwards) Williams.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Schabot (Walt Garner, Jr.), and Kimberly Chabot-Dumoulin (Christophe Dumoulin); five grandchildren, Justin Garner (Linda Barry), Matthew Garner (Kelly Grant), Hannah Garner (John Wilamowski), Grace Garner, and Gabriel Dumoulin; one precious great-granddaughter, Laurel Garner; two nephews, William "Bill" Schabot Jr. and Tate Schabot, and one niece, Karla Schabot Alvarez.

Barbara graduated from Hudson High School and took pride in being an impeccable and loving homemaker for many years before taking on a variety of secretarial jobs. Mom had a difficult childhood so she made certain that we had family vacations in Cape Cod, the New Jersey shore, the Carolinas, and Virginia as well as many camping trips in the Catskills and Hudson Valley. She was a loyal mother and helped her children through many difficult times, including her son Paul's terminal illness.

She had a sharp memory and a mind for numbers, always remembering a phone number, a zip code, or an address in the pre-digital age. When reminiscing, she could recall family lore from both her and our father's ancestry and she thrived on conversations with her childhood friends, her sister Bette, her children, and her neighbors.  We have fond memories of her holding the phone to one ear while managing her household effortlessly. We would sit on the counter while she was cooking or baking and when it was the time to do the dishes we did them.  She taught us the best way to clean a bathroom, get stains out of clothing, and how to fiercely love our children.

In retirement Barbara and Edward split their time between Kingston and Myrtle Beach, SC where they enjoyed golfing, beach walks, and spending time with a wide circle of friends. But Barbara's true joy was being a mother and grandmother and she spent several years providing childcare for her working daughters and spoiling the grandchildren she adored.
