Betty Jean Cantwell, 76, died January 16, 2024 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born January 21, 1947 in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Richard V. and Helen Cantwell.
She is survived by her brother Richard T. Cantwell, Sr. and his wife Rosemarie, her sister Margaret Major, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predceased by her sister Mary Alice Rockwell and her brother Joseph Cantwell.
Before entering Golden Hill, Betty Jean (aka BJ) was a long time resident of Malden IRA and moved to North Ohioville IRA as she needed a more accessible home. She attended ARC Mid-Hudson Pecora day program where she enjoyed socializing and learning skills. She enjoyed going into the community and her favorite places were McDonald's, the diner and shopping. Betty Jean participated many times in the Special Olympics where she won numerous medals in track-and-field. She liked to dance, sing, make crafts and go to visit her brother Richard at his home who also took her many places and was her biggest advocate.
