Bruce Hotaling

Bruce Albert Hotaling passed away at home surrounded by his friends and extended family on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Bruce spent most of his life living with his mother, Marie Lucille Hanusik in Concord, New Hampshire and Cairo, New York. After his mom got ill, Bruce began living with his sister Susan Sonnenberg and her husband Wayne. For a short period of time, Bruce lived with his niece Erin Guilfoyle and her husband Dan in Middletown, NY.  He moved to Market IRA in Ellenville, NY in 2019. When the home closed, Bruce moved to the Reed IRA, Kingston, NY August 24, 2022. When his sister passed, his brother-in-law Wayne, continued the family bond to be Bruce's advocate.

Bruce was born on July 5th, 1965. He was a student at Boces, through their special education department and received an IEP Diploma. Bruce spent many years working at the Sheltered Workshop in Catskill, NY. He also worked at a little café for 14 years in New Hampshire busing tables and performing a variety of other tasks. While residing at the Reed IRA, he attended Day Program Classroom 1 at the Pecora Center bringing joy to the lives of those around him.

Bruce was a man who loved playing Basketball in the Special Olympics program for many of his younger years where he was awarded many certificates, medals and trophies before deciding to "hang up" his basketball shoes and just play the sport for fun. He was happiest dancing and singing to his favorite artists, especially Johnny Cash (Walk the Line), John Denver (Take me Home, Country Road) and Kenny Rodger (The Gambler).

A Special Thanks to Hudson Valley Hospice for all their support and care for Bruce over the past 2 years. A thank you to the Reed staff for providing Bruce exactly what he loved doing right up to the last moment. A extended thank you to the love of his life, LillyMae, Bruce will be forever grateful for all your support to connect with his mom and for having spent his last hours with you by his bedside singing, dancing and holding his hand.

Bruce touched the lives of so many, he will be forever remembered as "The Man" and deeply missed forever
