Charles Bowman Barnett III, from Kingston NY, took his final bow on April 1, 2026 and left Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's behind. Born on June 19, 1960 in Zaragoza, Spain on a US Airforce base on Father's Day, it's no surprise he passed on April Fool's Day. Charles loved holidays.
Wanting to become a comic book artist, Charles met Joe Sinnott while at SUNY New Paltz and began an incredible friendship and mentorship. Charles was a veteran inker. He debuted with Marvel in 1991 on Hawk and Dove, and also worked for DC, Valiant, Techno Comix, Warp Graphics, Acclaim, and others on such books as Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Code Blue, Teen Titans, Deathstroke, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Viper, Rai, Magnus, and ElfQuest. Charles has also done commercial work for children's books; coloring books; comic books for corporations, and the Archdiocese of New York; toy design and promotional art; advertising concept art; storyboard art; and comic-style history graphic novels for Capstone that are in libraries and schools.
Charles was very involved as a Scout Leader. He designed patches for the BSA and donated artwork to their auctions. Charles also designed school event t-shirts, show Playbills, and donated artwork to the community. Charles did voice-over work and performed in local community theatre. Some favorite shows were Little Shop of Horrors, Camelot, Tommy, The Wizard of Oz, Bye Bye Birdie, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and A Christmas Carol.
Charles met the lovely and gracious Kim-Denise (as he called her) at SUNY New Paltz, thanks to winning a date with her in an auction. They dated briefly at that time and then reconnected 13 years later, got married and had adventures that lasted 30 years.
Charles is survived by his wife, Kim-Denise Barnett, his children, Charlie Barnett IV and Mary Kate
Barnett, his brother, John (Leslie) Barnett, and the Virginia Barnetts: Gerald, Aggie, and Chris.
Charles would tip his ever-present cowboy hat and ask us all to EXCEL!!
