Charles L. Johnson "Chuck", 47, of Kingston died in his wife's arms surrounded by his family on Monday August 19, 2024 at home after a long illness. Born August 25, 1976 in Poughkeepsie, New York he was the son of Cynthia Johnson and the late Michael Houston.

Charles worked as a Youth Advocate for Ulster Youth Advocacy. He also worked at ARC of Ulster County and Anytime Home Care. Chuck was an athlete and enjoyed coaching and playing basketball religiously. He was an avid Giants fan and enjoyed Sunday dinners and football games. Chuck worked tirelessly in soup kitchens, shelters, and donated his time to many good causes. Chuck helped anyone in need. He would purchase holiday presents, school clothes, and groceries for those in need. Chuck never expected anything in return and did not want any recognition for his good deeds. He and his family had an open door to those in need.

Chuck's greatest pride and love was his family. His children and those he mentored and raised were the light of his life. The pride he had for his children was unmeasurable. His motto as a Father was to teach his children to do good in life, be good to others, and to achieve success. His children have all achieved wonderful things in life and Chuck took great pride and comfort in this towards the end of his illness. His wish for them was to continue to do good things and remember that he will always be with them in spirit.

In addition to his mother Cynthia Johnson, he is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Melissa (Pugh) Johnson. His children Kyle Johnson, Shaheem Johnson (Julia Simonini) , and Mia Johnson as well as a "bonus son" Mahki Matthews. Siblings; Lakesha Dunbar, Keiyana Daubon, Rashad Houston, Marcel Houston, Michael Houston Jr. Chuck had a close relationship with his cousins, thought of as siblings; Stacey and Tracey Faircloth. His canine companion Axl as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers may be made in form of contributions to the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston in Chuck's name.
