Cheryl C. Hathaway, 58, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was born on November 9, 1966, in Brooklyn, NY, the youngest of seven children born to the late Rudolf H. and Leonie I. Brybag.
Throughout her life, Cheryl held a variety of roles, but her greatest role-and the one she cherished most-was being a loving mother to her four children. She was a gentle, caring soul who greeted the world with a warm smile and a kind word for everyone. Friendly and fun-loving, Cheryl enjoyed meeting new people and sharing laughter. She had a sharp wit and a fondness for clever humor. In which represented a true reflection of the Brybag family's signature sense of humor.
A music lover through and through with an incredible memory, Cheryl could name practically every artist, song title, and lyric-especially from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. The moment the first chords of a song played, she knew the song and was drawn to the dance floor. She also had a soft spot for cats and a love of all things bright and colorful-flowers, clothing, and jewelry were among her favorites.
Cheryl's love for the outdoors was evident throughout her life. In her younger years, she enjoyed visiting Coney Island and Brighton Beaches in Brooklyn. Later, she found peace and happiness swimming at Lake Welch Beach in Harriman State Park and Lake Ontario in Kingston. In which she could spend hours soaking up the sun. Whether by the water or simply sitting outside, she greatly enjoyed the warmth and beauty of nature.
Time with family was what Cheryl treasured most. She loved get-togethers, especially those spent in Vermont or at her parents' home in Margaretville, NY. Her fondest memories were of her beloved parents, whom she loved and missed deeply every day.
Cheryl leaves behind her devoted husband of 35 years, Harold (John) Hathaway, and their four children: Skyler, Brenten, Sarah, and Molleen. She also leaves behind her sisters Jacintha Cunningham and Marjorie Fenton (husband John); her brothers Dennis Brybag and Errol R. Brybag (wife Jane); her mother-in-law Ann Hathaway; her brother-in-law Peter Hathaway (wife Edith); and her sister-in-law Rose Wishall (husband John). Cheryl is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and two aunts. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Hesdy Brybag and Roy Brybag.
Cheryl's radiant spirit, loving heart, and joyful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
