Dean R. Kraus, age 74, of Hurley, N.Y. passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2026. Dean was born in NYC, grew up in Syosset, and most recently lived 23 years in Hurley.

He is survived by his partner in life, Brigita Taliaferro, son Jordan Kraus, brother Peter Kraus, brother Lon Kraus, niece Kimber Wilk and her family, and Brigita's children and grandchildren whom he deeply loved. He was predeceased by his father Herbert Kraus, mother Constance Kraus, and brother Stefan Kraus.

Dean began his musical career at the piano. He went on to study at Berklee College of Music. He performed with Melanie, Phoebe Snow, Taylor Dayne, and various other local and national talents. He also served as Musical Director for some of those tours. He owned and operated Dean Kraus Productions in Port Jefferson. His final "gig" was producing background music for television programs such as 48 Hours, Dateline, and many others. Dean was exceedingly talented, profoundly kind and generous, and unabashedly funny.
