Dorothy Myers

Dorothy "Dottie," "Dot," or "Ma" Myers , 67, of Kingston, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at HealthAlliance Hospital. Born October 3, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy Mary (Kain) Martini.

Dorothy was a woman of fierce spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering honesty. She didn't pretend to be someone she wasn't, which made her unforgettable. She had a voice that carried, a heart that held on tight, and a strength forged in a childhood that demanded it. Life didn't deal her an easy hand, but she played it with grit, humor, and a will to survive.

Dot dreamed of becoming an archaeologist, but family upheaval and a rocky home life pushed her to leave high school early and take whatever work paid the bills. That path led her to a 25-year career in housekeeping—14 years at Benedictine Hospital, followed by 11 at Kingston Hospital. She never pretended it was her passion, but she showed up, hustled, and ensured her four kids had what they needed, even if it meant sore knees and overtime.

Cooking was Ma's therapy. If she loved you, you got second helpings; if she was mad at you, she still fed you—she just seasoned it with extra glare. Holidays meant trays of ham, sarcasm served hot, and stories you couldn't repeat in polite company.

She is survived by her children: Christopher Myers (with partner Jessica Booth), Jess Myers III (and wife Amy), John Myers, and Melissa Myers; and her grandchildren Shelby, Natalee, Mackenzie, and Gabriella, who brought her so much joy and had become one of her greatest sources of pride. Though she didn't live with or near them in her later years, she stayed connected to her grandchildren with regular phone calls, always checking in and letting them know they were loved.

She also leaves behind her brothers, Max and Hank Martini—sturdy branches on a complicated family tree.

Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings Debbie, Janet, Laura, and Raymond, and by the parents who, despite their flaws, helped shape the fire in her.

A private celebration of life will be held in Warwick, NY, on Saturday, June 21. The dress code is whatever makes you comfortable, but be ready to swap honest stories. Dottie wouldn't want anything sugar-coated.

Dorothy Myers will be remembered for her genuine spirit, quiet strength, and deep love for her family. She lived honestly and heartily, never pretending to be anything she wasn't. Through every challenge, she taught her children the value of resilience, the importance of speaking truth with kindness, and the beauty of always keeping a place at the table for those you love. Her voice—steadfast, caring, and full of truth—will continue to guide and comfort us, a lasting reminder of the love she gave so freely.
