Edward Kaufmann, Sr.

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday June 26th from 5-7 PM.

Edward Kaufmann Sr., son of the late Walter Kaufmann and Alide (Keith) Thomson, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026. Born on November 18, 1959, in Kingston, New York, Ed lived a life dedicated to his family, friendships, and community.

Ed proudly served with the New York State Department of Corrections, working at both Eastern Correctional Facility and Ulster Correctional Facility. After 35 years of service, he retired, leaving behind many lifelong friendships and the respect of countless colleagues.

Known for his warm personality and gift for conversation, Ed never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking with friends, family, neighbors, and anyone who stopped by. Many who knew him remember him sitting on his porch, waving to everyone who passed by. His friendly nature earned him the affectionate nickname, “The Mayor of Amsterdam Avenue.”

In his free time, Ed enjoyed playing golf and was a devoted New York Mets fan.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Cheryl Kaufmann (Leverenz); his three sons, Kristopher Cagnone (Tiffany), Derek Kaufmann (Megan), and Edward Kaufmann Jr. (Loni); his four grandchildren; his brothers, Gary Thomson and Daniel Thomson; his sister, Melissa Thomson; his brother-in-law, William Leverenz (Nadine); his sister-in-law, Patricia Riozzi (Dave); and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
