Ellen Rita Listort

Ellen Rita Listort, of Rondout Harbor, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and under the compassionate care of Hospice. She was born on September 30, 1948, to the late Frank and Rita (Nedley) Leahy.

A 1966 graduate of S.H. Calhoun High School in North Merrick, NY, Ellen pursued her passion for education, earning her master's degree from SUNY New Paltz in 1971. She went on to inspire generations of students as a devoted English teacher in the Kingston School District, where she taught for over 30 years.

Ellen is survived by her daughters, Resa and Cynthia (Rhett Weires); her sister, Meg Reuter; her brother, Frank Leahy (Mary Ellen); and her grandsons, Maximilian, Jedidiah, Rhys, and Beckett Weires. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her longtime partner, Dr. William J. Van Kleeck, DO, in 2017. In her final weeks, she was blessed with the friendship and support of Jean McGarry and Pam Thornton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Compassionate Care or Hospice.
