The family will be holding a private gathering on Saturday, March 4, and plan to hold a celebration of Emily's life for friends and family in Spring 2023.

March 5, 2023 Emily Jane Sofaer, daughter of Barbara Wild and Michael Nelson, sister of Becca Wild, died Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in her Rosendale home. She was 39.

Born Emily Jane Nelson in Cornwall-on-Hudson, she lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Bearsville, Saugerties, and Rosendale, New York. She was an accomplished writer, actress, and musician. She performed with many musical groups, including The Wild Poppies in Brooklyn, and opened for people such as The Virgins and Duncan Sheik.

She earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching at Bard College. She taught at SUNY Ulster, and is remembered by many for her work with Family of Woodstock. At the time of her death, Ms. Sofaer worked for the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies.

An artist, a lifetime New Yorker, and an intellectual, Emily devoted her life to the humanities, to books, music, languages, fashion, people, and love. Her residence had a record collection in place of a television. She leaves behind no social media accounts. Survivors include parents Barbara Wild and Michael Nelson of Saugerties, and sister Becca Wild of Kingston.
