Family and friends will be meeting at Leahy Funeral Home on January 11th at 11:00 am for prayer.

She will be laid to rest along with her husband, Willard, on January 11, 2025, at 12:00 pm in the Historical Montrepose Cemetery, where members of her family now rest. The family is Honored to have Rev. William Scafidi, to conduct a graveside memorial service.

Esther Ann Hansen, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024.  In February of 2024, she and her husband Willard relocated from Naples, Florida to Germantown Maryland to be closer to family.

Esther was born on September 17, 1933, in Kingston New York, daughter of Robert Lee Howard and Matilda Howard. After the war, her father, the Commander of the Coast Guard, became the Rondout Lighthouse Keeper, located on the Hudson River. This is where Esther and her sister Lillian lived during their childhood years.  Esther was the Captain of the Kingston High School Cheerleading Squad where she met Willard, who was the captain of the high school football team. They were married for 68 years, until his death in July 2024.  She attended Bridgeport College where she received her degree in Physical Education.  Esther was the Phys Ed teacher at Hopkinton High School for many years, where she coached the Girls Field Hockey team, winning several state championships. Esther and Willard enjoyed traveling and lived a fulfilling and active life.

Esther was the mother of 4 boys; Robert, Howard, Glenn and Bradley, she had 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In 1968 the family moved to Pembroke New Hampshire which became their home for more than 55 years.  They enjoyed time living on Lake Winnipesauke on Black Cat Island, then moved to Merideth and eventually settled in Naples Florida for the past 15 years.

Esther is predeceased by her sister Lillian (Bunny) and husband Willard.
