Frederick Schuetz, 90, of Saugerties died Wednesday January 4, 2023 at HealthAlliance Hospital:Mary's Avenue Campus. Born June 24, 1932 in the Bronx, he is the son of the late Frederick J. and Dorothy Schuetz. Frederick grew up in the Bronx, but spent his summers on his family's farm in Red Hook from ages four to sixteen. He would often tell many great stories about the summers at the farm. At age seventeen, Frederick enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent most of his adult life in Phoenicia, and while there, he began his career with the town of Shandaken Highway Department working as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the American Legion Post 950, serving as Commander until 2006. Frederick was an avid deer hunter and will forever be remembered for his love of old cowboy movies and war documentaries.
He is survived by twelve children, Frederick Schuetz, Sharon Cullen, Steven Schuetz, Denise O'Donnell, Jimmy Schuetz, Robert Schuetz, Susan Hoyt, Jeanne Beck, Kristine Madison, Cathy Johnsmeyer, Tricia Langbein and Lauren Keane and their spouses/partners. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
Frederick was predeceased by his loving wife Edna Mae Flaherty, his granddaughter Morgan Finch, grandson Derrick Schuetz, and his former wife and mother of his first six children, Rita Schuetz.
