Of Millers Lane in Kingston died at Green Meadows Health and Rehabilitation Center Catskill, NY on Saturday December 7, 2024.

Born in Kingston, NY on March 8, 1938. He was the son of the late George H. Johnston and Leona Freer. Gary was a 1956 graduate of Kingston High School where he lettered in tennis and was a member of the KHS Choir. He served in The United States Air Force from 1957 until Honorable Discharge in 1961.  He was employed at IBM for thirty years. Before that he was employed at Rotron Manufacturing in Zena, NY. After retirement, he and his wife owned and ran Hudson River Art Gallery and Frame and Shop on Wall Street in Kingston for nearly 10 years. Gary remained an art and antique enthusiast, who ran a small frame shop from his home, and sold antiques from Beekman Arms Antique Market in Rhinebeck, NY.

Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years Jane E (Glass) Johnston, daughter Joyce Farrell, son Wayne Johnston and his wife Mary, brother George Johnston and his wife Brenda, grandchildren; Jennifer Charnel and husband Anthony, Elizabeth Sargent and husband Alex, Michael Farrell and wife Caitlin, Melissa Foley and husband Billy, Christopher Johnston, and Caitlin Johnston. Along with 12 great grandchildren, two granddogs and many more great granddogs that he loved.
