George D. Haas

George D. Haas, 88, of Atwood Road, Stone Ridge, NY moved on to his Lord's next assignment, from his home, on December 24, 2025. Born in South Williamsport, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Gertrude M. (Tobin) Haas.

George is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Genevieve Mary Guinan Haas. Also surviving are two daughters Karla Wainwright and Denise Ann (Keith) Turner, grandchildren Kyle Wainwright, Emily Swinden (Tyler), Brandon Turner, Bradley Turner. Great grandchildren Oliver, Charlotte and Remy Swinden. Nieces and nephews also survive.

A son, Charles Richard Haas predeceased him in 1981. A brother Charles Frank Haas predeceased him in 1997 and a sister Mary Ellen Haas Straub in 2016.  He was also predeceased by his loyal feline "Rian"

George was a proud native of Pennsylvania and graduate of South Williamsport Jr. Sr. High School, Class of 1955. He served with the U.S. Air Force Airways and Communications Service (AACS) as a Flight Facilities Equipment Repairman 1955-1959. ("Double AA All The Way"). He served in Korea and was awarded the Korean Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He was an amateur Radio Operator, WB2SPD, and held a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License. He was employed by IBM in Kingston and retired as a Staff Engineer in 1993, after twenty-seven years of service. He was a member of the IBM Kingston Quarter Century Club.

George was active in the volunteer fire service in Ulster County, NY for forty-eight years and was a Certified NFPA Level I Fire Instructor. In 1992, he was appointed to a state fire instructor position. He was privileged to have taught firefighters at many fire departments in Ulster County, NY for seventeen years.

At George's request, there will be no visitation. Entombment will be in Wildwood Cemetery Praying Hands Mausoleum, Williamsport, PA at the convenience of the family. Cryptside military honors will be offered by the Korean Veterans of Lycoming County, PA. In lieu of flowers, George had requested that donations be made to the Charles Haas Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. for Ulster County NY Firefighters, P.O. Box 404 Rosendale, NY 12472. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Stone Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, Marbletown First Aid, and Hudson Valley Hospice.
