George R. Schmid

A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m..

Inurnment will follow at the Hurley Cemetery.

GEORGE R.  SCHMID, of Ridgewood Avenue, died at Golden Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday March 30, 2024. He was ninety years of age. Born April 23, 1933 in Kingston, New York a son of the late George and Caroline (Wiedman) Schmid. A graduate of Kingston High School class of 1950.  He attended and graduated from Morrisville Technical College. A veteran of the United States Army serving during the post Korean War Era.

Mr. Schmid was employed by IBM Kingston and Poughkeepsie, NY as a Procurement Manager in the Data Systems Division. He retired after forty-three years with the company.
He was an active life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and held a variety of council positions throughout his tenure. While employed at IBM, George and his family were given the opportunity to live in Japan for three years.  It was there he  and wife Betty developed a travel appetite and were able take the family on several trips throughout Asia. George and Betty went on to travel the world and the U.S., following their family and attending the many sporting and family events involving their children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Surviving are his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Anne (Petri) Schmid. A son, Alan Schmid and his wife Olga. Their children (Grandchildren) Ryan Schmid and his wife Sarah, Eric Schmid and his wife Alexis, Lauren (Schmid) Sinesi and her husband Peter. Great grandchildren Parker and Dawson Schmid (sons of Eric and Alexis). A daughter, Kim (Schmid) Pepper and her husband, Sam. Their children (Grandchildren) Brandon Pepper and his wife Stephanie, Megan Pepper and her husband Tim Schley, Travis Pepper and his wife Kara, Kyle Pepper and his wife Mikayla.  Great grandchildren Braxton and Nash Pepper (sons of Brandon and Stephanie) and Tatum Pepper (daughter of Travis and Kara).

The Schmid Family would like to recognize the Golden Hill C-2 Unit Staff for the care and comfort they provided George during his stay with them as well as the many wonderful friends and neighbors who had supported him through his recently challenging times and continue to support his wife Betty and the family.
