Gloria C. Edinger, 89, of Hurley died Thursday May 18, 2023 at home. Born February 25, 1934 in Stone Ridge, she is the daughter of the late Charles and Gladys Lounsbery.
Gloria, affectionately nicknamed "Glo," graduated Kingston High School and was married to her high school sweetheart, Stanley J. Edinger for 54 years before his passing in 2010. She worked as an LPN for local hospitals before retiring early to raise her family, opening their home to their adopted son first and then an adopted daughter. Gloria enjoyed gardening, reading, and solving all types of puzzles. Dining out and poolside weekend picnics with friends and family were favorite pastimes, especially in the summer months. She and Stan were frequent boaters on the Rondout and Hudson rivers and were regular ocean cruisers traveling all over the Caribbean. An avid animal lover, she had many rescue cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, and even ducks throughout her life. Her dog Babe, a rescue dog from the Ulster County SPCA, was her constant companion for the last five years and she enjoyed doting on her, taking her shopping and for car rides, usually including puppuccinos. She also was a longtime volunteer at the Ulster County SPCA, cleaning, feeding and socializing cats and preparing hundreds of potted and hanging plants each year for their annual Garden Party fundraiser. A two-time cancer survivor, Gloria was known for her positive attitude, infectious smile, and her quick wit and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
Surviving are her children Jody C. Edinger and his wife Megan of Lithia, Florida, and Gina V. Edinger-Carbonari of Hurley, grandchildren Gianna and Anthony Edinger, a sister Aldeane Teetsel of Daytona Beach, Florida. Many nieces and nephews, especially Nancy and Donnie Williams, and her dear friend of over 40 years Karen Osterhoudt also survive.
Gloria's husband Stanley Edinger, and siblings Betty Williams and Jocelyn Ellinger predeceased her.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the Ulster County SPCA - 20 Wiedy Road, Kingston NY 12401.
