Gordon M. Smith

A graveside service with military honor guard will be held December 1, 2023 at 11am at Lloyd Cemetery, Highland, New York.

Gordon M. Smith, of Orchard Terrace Apartments, Kingston, died Saturday, November 25, 2023.  Born in Newburgh, New York, he was the son of the late Donald M. Smith and the late Mildred Pomatiere.

Gordon was honorably discharged from the US Army in January 1972. He was employed as an attendant at the Hess Service Station, Kingston from 1980 until September 1995, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury while working. After recovering from his physical injuries, he moved to Troy, New York. In May,2003 he returned to Kingston.

Gordon was an avid New York Mets fan and enjoyed discussing baseball with anyone who would listen.

Appreciation is extended to all of Gordon's medical providers, doctors, nurses, aides, and caregivers who provided care during his lifetime, especially those who cared for Gordon immediately after his accident.  Additional thanks to those working at Northeast Center for Rehabilitation and Brain Injury, Kingston Wound Care Center, Kingston Hospital, Community HealthCare, Hamaspik Choice and Caring Connectors.  Special appreciation is extended to Adelaide Simon, building manager at Orchard Terrace Apartments.  Her 20 years of kindness and compassion for Gordon will never be forgotten.
