Herbert E. Cogswell Jr.

Herbert E. Cogswell Jr., 101, of Kerhonkson died Friday October 6, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born March 6, 1922 in Kingston he was the son of the late Herbert E. and Alma (Barnes) Cogswell Sr.

Herbert served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a mechanic for Chrysler of Ulster County and then Sears Roebuck Company in Kingston. Herbert loved to fish, in his younger years he did paintings and loved to watch his game shows from the 70's!

Herbert is survived by his daughter Rose Hornbeek and her husband Roger, stepchildren; Vernon Smith (Alinda), Clarence Smith and his late wife Carol, Garry Smith and his wife Jacqueline, and Jay Smith. Grandchildren Caryn Danchanko, Debi Pierce, step-grandchildren Pearl Swanson (Anthony Botsakos Jr.), Sierra Hughson ((God Daughter), Clarence Smith Jr., Samantha Coddington, Fred Coddington and Rudy Swanson. Many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Virginia (Smith) Cogswell, second wife Eleanor (Perry) Cogswell, a son Howard J. Cogswell, stepdaughter Dawn Staccio, and brothers Earl, Edward and John Cogswell.
