It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Francis Brophy, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather.
Formerly of Kingston, New York, he died at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center on Wednesday October 29, 2025. Jim was born in Weehawken, New Jersey August 7, 1942 son of the late Nicholas and Helen (Horton) Brophy.
Jim devoted his life to service—both to his community and to the people he loved most. For 29 years, he served honorably with the Kingston Police Department until his retirement on July 4th, 1999 (he joked about it being his "Independence Day"). After retiring, they moved to Florida and then to Texas. His courage, integrity, and compassion guided every aspect of his work and life. Beyond the badge, Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 62 years (K of C 4th degree), loved golf, the NY Giants and was the heart of his family. He was a steady, gentle presence, always ready with a warm smile, a helping hand, or a word of wisdom. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Beverly (Hoban) Brophy, his daughters Sharon (Jared) and Corinne (Paul) and his two grandsons Frankie and Charlie as well as, his older sister (as he always liked to remind her) Maureen. Jim was predeceased by his father Nicholas, his mother, Helen and his eldest sister Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, Jim kindly requested donations be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
