James D. Griffin, 74, resident of The Arc Mid-Hudson Reed House, Kingston, NY, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024, at HealthAlliance Hospital: Mary's Avenue Campus. He was born September 20, 1949, the son of the late John "Jack" Griffin and Mary "Mollie" (Healy) Griffin. Jimmy was born in Palenville, NY, and grew up at Griffin's Irish House. He worked at Pilot Industries for many years and resided at the Arc home "Jack Griffin House" on Spring Street in Catskill. In his earlier years, Jimmy LOVED to travel and visit with his family in North Carolina. He also enjoyed watching Saugerties' July Fourth fireworks from the Barber/Siracusano compound and exploring the NC Marine Museums and NC Aquarium. He could list all the ingredients for and make Irish soda bread and "TRYYY-fle," Trifle his favorite dessert. He weaved rugs and had a passion for cartography, studying maps and pointing out all the places he'd been, as well as state capitals. He always loved to dive into puzzles of all kinds, from ones of several thousand pieces to more straightforward puzzles of fish, turtles, bears, and the United States map, of course.
Jimmy is survived by his sister Patricia Griffin Barber (Phil, deceased) of North Carolina. His sisters Joann and Margaret Griffin preceded him in death. He is also survived by his nephew Phil Barber (Agnes), nieces Alison Barber Vick and Stefanie Barber Mueller (Tim), as well as many more grand nieces and nephews, plus his friends and family at his home The Arc Mid-Hudson Reed House.
