Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 PM. 

A funeral procession will form Saturday 9 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. 

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

James (Jim) J. Sweeney, 83, of Kingston passed away at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston on August 4, 2026. Born on February 12, 1943, he was the son of the late James P. and Agnes (Henderson) Sweeney.

Jim proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1963 – 1967 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and a Unit Presidential Citation.

Jim spent his post-military career as a Prudential Financial Agent where he received many company and professional awards as both an insurance agent and sales manager.

Jim was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and also a 3rd and 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus where he also served as a past Deputy Grand Knight.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia E. Sweeney, and by his daughters: Dr. Patricia Sweeney and Amy Vetter and Amy’s husband, Brian. Jim is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Mrs. Kathleen Scala and Mrs. Ann Sottile as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by his sister, Catherine Schupp and her husband, John, as well as by brothers-in-law, Charles Scala and Frank Sottile, and by brother-in-law, John Thompson and his wife, Debra.

On behalf of Jim, his family would like to thank the Home-Based Primary Care Team at the VA Albany Healthcare System, Father Ya-Ya, Dr. Mary Benoy, and the 5th floor staff at the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston for their compassion and dedicated care.
