A memorial visitation will be held Saturday July 19, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Saint Joseph's Church at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will take place at Green Mountain Cemetery in Montpelier, Vermont at a later date.
Jane Elizabeth (Glass) Johnston, 89 of Millers Lane Kingston, NY passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side under the care of Hospice on Tuesday, July 8 2025. She was born in Kingston, NY on August 21,1935 minutes before her identical twin sister and lifelong best friend, the late Joan (Glass) Cleveland. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Marie (Sweeney) Glass. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1954. In 1956 Jane and her sister Joan entered the Sister of the Presentation Convent with the intention of entering the Catholic sisterhood. Although their faith was strong, they decided to leave the sisterhood and that having a family was their true calling. Jane and Joan's Catholic faith was always the center of their lives. Joan married the love of her life Porter Cleveland and they introduced Jane to her soon to be husband the late Gary W. Johnston of Kingston, NY.
Jane and Gary were married on July 8, 1961. Jane passed on their 64th wedding anniversary just months after the passing of her late husband. They had two children, Joyce Farrell and Wayne Johnston. Jane was employed as a secretary at IBM and after retirement she and Gary owned and ran the Hudson River Gallery and Frame Shop on Wall Street in Kingston. Jane and Gary loved big family events and traveling. They loved spending time with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as their brothers and sisters and their families.
Surviving is her daughter Joyce Farrell, son Wayne Johnston and his wife Mary. Her younger sister Nancy Meile. Grandchildren Jennifer Charnel and husband Anthony, Elizabeth Sargent and her husband Alex, Michael Farrell and his wife Caitlin, Melissa Foley and her husband Billy, Christopher Johnston and Caitlin Johnston as well as 12 great grandchildren and two grand dogs. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Jane was predeceased by her late husband Gary Johnston, siblings Katherine Caruso, Donald Glass, Bernice Bruno, Rosemary Klonowski, Raymond Glass and her twin sister Joan Cleveland.
