Janine Grogan , "Jan", passed away on January 3, 2026 at home amongst family. She was 92 years of age. Born on August 25, 1933 in Larchmont, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edmond Vier of France, and Marie Louise (Michaud) Vier, of Switzerland. Janine graduated from Mamaroneck High School and later earned a Bachelor's degree in English Literature at The College of New Rochelle. She became a case worker for the Department of Child Welfare in White Plains, NY where she met her future husband, John L. Grogan, "Jack" of Tuckahoe, NY. They were married in July 1957 in Larchmont, NY and moved to Kingston, NY in 1959. It was there that they raised seven children and lived happily for 58 years, before Jack's passing. Her children and grandchildren brought much joy into her life.
Jan was actively engaged in her community in Kingston, singing at church services, volunteering her time in community service, and supporting many youth activities. She especially enjoyed volunteering in support of residents at the Hudson Valley Senior Residence, and later, while employed at Ten Broeck Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing as an activity leader. She appreciated the opportunities to work with seniors, and the residents cherished her energetic support. Jan developed many lasting friendships with neighbors and community members throughout her life.
Jan loved to sing, and was known to "join in" whenever a choral opportunity arose. She especially enjoyed the Grogan family sing-a-longs! She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Choir for over 30 years and sang every Sunday. Her strong faith ran through her life, both at St. Joseph's Church and the Chapel of Divine Mercy.
Jan loved everything about travel and the outdoors, from planting gardens to camping trips with family. She was also an enthusiastic Yankee fan and enjoyed bird-watching, knitting, sewing, and book clubs. She lived throughout her life by principles of frugality and simplicity.
Jan is survived by her seven loving children: Jeanne Marie Fisher of Kingston, NY; John and his wife Carol of Omaha, NE; Jim and his wife Aidi of Rochester Hills, MI; Paul of Las Vegas, NV; Dan and his fiancée Leilanie Chavez of Schenectady, NY; Marianne Daoust and her husband Doug of Peoria, AZ; and Kate Kacur and her husband Brent of Kingston, NY. Jan is also survived by ten grandchildren: Sarah, Lauren, Mason, Madeleine, Alyssa, Daniel, Ryan, Brandon, Kerry and Jack; four great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Nola, Charlie and George; and many loved nieces and nephews. Janine is also survived by her devoted siblings Jerry Vier and Colette Martin.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, her grandson Jared Fisher, and also many other loved members of her large extended family. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. With grateful hearts we all celebrate Janine, as the little songbird soars in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or to St. Joseph's Church, 242 Wall Street Kingston, NY 12401.
