Jesse "Butch" Ector , 75, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, October 11, 2026.

Born on November 26, 1951, to Frances and Jesse C. Ector, Butch was the fourth of eleven children. His children, brothers, sisters, and special cousins describe him as a true original—a beautifully unique individual who cherished his privacy and moved through life with a fi ercely independent spirit. Comfortable in his own skin and protective of his quiet world, Butch never compromised on who he was, proudly marching to the beat of his own drum.

After earning his GED at Kingston High School, Butch took classes at SUNY Ulster, where he pursued a lifelong passion for photography. A deep lover of the outdoors, he worked in landscaping for many years, making his mark as a talented gardener who brought vibrant beauty to countless yards in the community.

When he wasn’t working, Butch was happiest spending time with family and friends, whether he was out fi shing or cooking up a feast. He was a master of the grill and always the first to volunteer to man it at family functions. His days were often soundtracked by the music he loved, holding a deep appreciation for old-school R&B and a special soft spot for Country Western tunes.

Butch’s unique perspective, quiet wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his three children: Jesse Ector (Tameckia) of Kingston, NY; Kelly Landerway of Plainfield, NJ; and Keon Orion Miller-Ector of Kerhonkson, NY. He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Lajurae Landerway, Ke’Anu S. Sims, Yah’Sym L. Landerway, Khy’Ahndre Woolfork, Kierra Elizabeth Miller-Ector, Ivoni Marlene Miller-Ector, Keon Orion Miller-Ector Jr., and Estelle Sherron, and one great-grandson, Karter Baskerville. Son of Lajurae Landerway.

He is also survived by six of his siblings: George Ector Jr. of Raleigh, NC; Shirley Ector of Kingston, NY; Edward Ector (Yvonne) of Indianapolis, IN; Jefferey Ector of Raleigh, NC; Marie Ector of Kingston, NY; and Michael Ector of Kingston, NY. He leaves behind the mothers of his children, Brenda Miller and Shirley Whitlock, along with special siblings/cousins Melrose Kithcart, Priscilla Copeland, Nate Davis, Denise Brown, Evelyn Barnes, and Phyllis Barnes, a host; nieces, nephews, extended family members; close neighbors; and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.
