Joan Avery

Joan D. Avery, 84, of Connelly, New York, passed away on October 2, 2026, at Merrimack County Nursing Home in New Hampshire.

She was born and raised in Connelly, New York, the daughter of Francis Avery Sr. and Thelma Avery. Joan worked as postmaster in Connelly, at the Connelly boat yard, and Hercules in Port Ewen.

She was predeceased by her four brothers, Peter Avery, Francis Avery Jr. (“Squeekie”), Edward Avery, and James Avery, and by her son, Ralph Lyons III.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Theresa (Lyons) Jones, her grandchildren, Jessica Knapp, Gregory “Bud” Jones, Glenn Jones, and Jeffrey Jones; and her great-grandchildren.

She will be buried privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kingston, New York 12401, with her parents.
