Joan L. Saehloff

Friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Sunday July 19th 2pm to 5pm. 

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians will hold a service on July 19th at 4 pm at the funeral home. 

A procession will form at the funeral home on Monday July 20th at 9am. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10am at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Joan L. Saehloff, 94, of 16 Riverview, Port Ewen, passed away at Ten Broeck Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing on July 1, 2026. Born March 13, 1932, to the late Walter and Ellen (Sweeney) Woinoski.

She married the love of her life, the late Robert Saehloff, on October 12, 1985, after a 25-year courtship!

Joan was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, where she attended Mass every day consecutively for 75 years. Joan was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Rosary Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Trustee along with her dearest friend, Bernard Redmond.

In her later years, she became a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, where she continued her devotion to the Divine Mercy Chapel.

Joan graduated from St. Ursula’s Academy at Marygrove and Kingston High School.

Her employment began in the mail room at the Daily Freeman, where she met the young delivery boys, most of whom became prominent local attorneys; her favorite, Bill Cloonan, became a lifelong friend. Later, she became the Life & Society Editor & Columnist at the Daily Freeman, where she flourished and was frequently photographed. Joan also served as secretary to Howard St. John at Ulster Savings Bank. She was a social butterfly, always impeccably dressed and smiling.

Joan was also involved in many Church and Civil Organizations, including the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Marian Movement, Court Santa Maria, St. Ursula Alumni, Wiltwyck Country Club, and many more. A large part of that was fundraising for those in need.

Joan’s life focus was her faith in God, her Church and parish family, and her desire to help those most in need.

She leaves behind her cousins Helen (Sweeney) and Leon Halwick and their children Michael Halwick, David Halwick and Michelle (Halwick) Lutte as well as nieces and nephews, August (Denise) Wiedemann, Nancy Liese, Paul (Amy) Saehloff, Carol (William) Bugg, Colleen (Jeff) Leone, Dennis (Karen) Oulton, Jill DeLoach, Timothy (Kristine) Oulton, Sandra (Robert) Rings, Gail Simmons, Debbie (Jeff) Markell as well as many great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Along with her family, Joan had many close friends who were faithful in friendship through the years. Later in life, she met Ron O’Neill, who became a constant companion and friend to her until his passing.
