JoAnn Solian, 68 , passed away on October 3, 2025 at St Peter's Hospital in Albany, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 18, 1957, daughter of the late Edward and Madeline (Roberts) Szpulecki.
JoAnn always dreamed of becoming a nurse. She volunteered her time as a candy striper at Wycoff Hospital in Brooklyn, NY where she grew up. She attended St. Joseph's Patron grade school and then attended Grover Cleveland High School until the 10th grade. Her family then moved to Kingston, NY and she continued her High School years at Kingston High School and graduated with the Class of 1975.
She went on to further her education at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Albany, graduating at the top of her class, and became a Registered Nurse. She was employed by the Kingston Hospital in 1978. During a career that spanned 44 years, JoAnn held various titles and positions within the nursing field at Kingston Hospital and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree prior to her retirement in 2022.
JoAnn married the love of her life, John J. Solian, on October 7, 1978 and they raised 2 sons, John Jr. and Michael. Frequently putting the needs of her family before her own, JoAnn always took care of everyone around her and loved her family very much.
JoAnn loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to their cabin upstate and trying different restaurants. JoAnn loved shopping and taking trips to Atlantic City and Turning Stone with her best friend Kathy Smith who predeceased her in July. She looked forward to getting together with her nursing friends from the hospital. In recent years, she also enjoyed Turning Stone Casino with her sister-in-law, Bonnie. She will be missed by all who loved her.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, John Solian Sr, her sons John Solian Jr. (Allison Solian), Michael Solian (Jennifer Winne), grandsons Michael J. Solian, Hunter R. Solian, Hudson J. Solian and Andrew Purcell, brother Edward J. Szpulecki Jr. (Bonnie Szpulecki), sister in law Janet Roberts, nieces Donna Szpulecki, Jessica Roberts-Ruc, and nephews Brian Lindhorst, Michael Lindhorst, and Christopher Roberts.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert W. Roberts and was the daughter-in-law of the late Metro Solian and Virginia (Cozza) Solian.
