John Louis Chick of Kingston, NY passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on June 8, 1944, John will be remembered by his family for his love of mathematics, sports, family, and his faith. He was predeceased by his parents, Josephine and John Louis Chick, Sr. Though he never met his father—who died heroically during the D-Day Allied Invasion on Normandy—John carried his name with pride.

Growing up with devotion to faith and scholarship, John attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Kingston and Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie. John went on to earn a degree in mathematics from Marist College in 1966. Upon graduation, he began a long and productive career at IBM as a Systems Analyst, where he worked until his retirement.

John had a natural gift for connecting with others. He loved people and had a special way of striking up easy, warm conversations wherever he went. His wit, humor, and genuine curiosity made him a friend to many.

In retirement, John and his beloved wife, Joyce, built their dream home on the banks of the Sawkill Creek. There, they enjoyed peaceful years together, surrounded by nature and the joyful company of their grandchildren, who filled their home with laughter and love.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce Brode Chick; his daughters, Jill (Howard) Reed of Oneonta and Susanna (Victor) Clavelli of Stamford, CT; his cherished grandchildren, Hunter Reed and her husband Miles Jahnke, and Daniel, Jack, and Cameron Clavelli; and his brother, Santo Perry.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in John's memory to The Alzheimer's Association, a cause meaningful to John and his family.

John will be remembered for his gentle spirit, deep faith, and his love for his family. His memory will continue to inspire all those blessed to have known him. His family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Oakwood Terrace in Moosic, PA, Home Health Care Professionals, and John's Hospice nurse, Judy, for the kindness and care they provided John in his final days.
