John Joseph DeRosalia

John Joseph DeRosalia passed away surrounded by loved ones in his home in Hurley, New York on October 16th, 2026. John was the second of four sons, born to Salvatore and Dorothy DeRosalia on April 27, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York.

John lived a rich and remarkably versatile life. After completing his graduate degree, he dedicated his career to serving others as a psychotherapist, maintaining a successful private practice for decades in New York. Beyond his work in mental health, John was a true Renaissance man: a peak performance coach, author, public speaker, teacher, social worker, magician, musician, and inventor. His adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit also saw him spend time as a skydiver, an appliance repairman, and a shop owner in Woodstock, New York alongside his wife.

More important than his professional accomplishments, John was a devoted husband, father, and a friend to many.

To know John was to love him. He lived with honesty, openmindedness, and willingness. His true superpower was meeting everyone exactly where they were, offering a safe, nonjudgmental space for people to be authentically themselves. John made the lives of everyone he touched better. As a counselor and mentor, if you were down, he helped lift you up and worked tirelessly to ensure you had the tools to keep lifting yourself up.

John is survived by son Johnny DeRosalia (and his wife Tasyka), son Salvatore DeRosalia, step daughters Sequoia and Cassidy Kristal, his wife of 26 years, Stephanie Kristal and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his presence. His memory and music will live on forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation in his memory to Hudson Valley Hospice as well as perform acts of kindness wherever you can.
