John W. Letus Sr., 73, died Thursday May 14, 2026 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Born August 30, 1952 in Kingston, he was the son of the late Walter and Hilda (Suominen) Letus.
John served our country in the United States Army as an Auto-Technician during the Vietnam War. John was an active member of the American Legion #1219 Tillson Post. He was an owner and mechanic at Mobile Tech Auto Repair and Towing in Ulster Park. John was a mechanic throughout his entire life among various dealerships and shops as well. John had a craft for transmissions, antique cars, and hot rods. He spent countless hours under hoods, in garages, at car shows, and behind the wheel, always happiest with grease on his hands and stories to tell. Cars weren’t just a hobby to him they were memories, freedom, and a well of connecting with the people he loved. Although his engine has finally come to rest, the love he gave and the memories he created will continue to ride alongside all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
John is survived by his wife Jana Letus of thirty one years, son Brandon Alexander and grandchildren; Christian Uzee, Cameron Letus and her husband Brett Beryann, Candice Kelly and Ainsley Alexander as well as a daughter in law Rebecca Kendrick.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Stephanie Uzee, and his brother Stanley Letus.
