John F. Miller

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday August 5th from 3-7 PM. A funeral service will be held Thursday 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Hurley Cemetery.

John F. Miller, 71, of Hurley passed away peacefully Saturday August 1, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 6, 1954 in Kingston, son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Feye) Miller.

John began his career in law enforcement as a cadet in Boulder, Colorado before relocating back to area, beginning his career as a police officer for the Town of Ulster Police Department, where he later ran the D.A.R.E. program. During this time, he also served with the New Paltz Police Department for several years. Remaining in law enforcement, he became well known in the area as the coordinator for Ulster County Stop DWI program.

John further served his community as a firefighter then a fire commissioner for the Hurley Fire Department.

Surviving is John’s wife, Karen Miller of Hurley, sons Dr. Daniel Miller and his wife Kara of Kentucky, Sergeant Michael Miller and his wife Anna of Hurley, grandchildren Michaela Miller, Gabrielle Miller and Valerie Miller. Siblings Kathleen Moore and her husband Donald of Connecticut, and Chief Daniel Miller and his wife Rachel of South Carolina. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Barbara Maxwell and granddaughter Genevieve Feye Miller.
