Josef Neuner

Josef Neuner, 91, formerly of Colorado died Wednesday January 4, 2023 at TenBroeck Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Born August 4, 1931 in Pretzfeld, Germany he is the son of the late Franz and Margareta Neuner.

Josef and his wife Irma immigrated from Germany to the United States. He then served our country in the United States Army. A barber by trade, through close friends he began his career as a waiter  at the Downtown Athletic Club in Manhattan; working for nearly forty years. He enjoyed sharing stories about his time working at the Downtown Club, speaking of the many Heisman Trophy Ceremonies he had worked and how Jackie Gleason was his biggest tipper. Josef relocated to Tillson to be closer to his family after his retirement. He loved food, and is remembered as an avid walker, walking miles every day to the OTB or to purchase lottery tickets. During his walks, it was not uncommon for him to stop at chat with his neighbors along the way.

Surviving is his wife Irma Neuner, daughters Heidi Horvath, Irene Schrowang and her husband Edward J. III, Irma Jones and her husband Anthony. Grandsons AJ and Jake Jones, Zach and James Schrowang and Walter Horvath. Siblings include Heinrich  Neuner, Rita Mayo and Maria Handel.

Per Mr. Neuner's wishes, there will be no formal services.
