Friends will be received at Immaculate Conception Church Monday July 27th from 11 AM until 12 noon.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon.
Inurnment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
Joseph Uhl, 83, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Tuesday July 21, 2026 at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston NY. He was born in Kingston, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Ferraro) Uhl.
Joseph is a member of the Kingston High School Athletic Hall of Fame. His exceptional talent on the basketball court earned him the nickname “Jumpin” Joe Uhl. A KHS class of 1961 basketball standout, the perimeter sniper finished with 1,282 career points in basketball a school record until 2003, and his 44 points in a single game holding up until 2004. During his high school career, Joe averaged 24.2 points per game, an impressive feat in an era before 3-point baskets. His talent earned him a scholarship to Boston University, where he made a promising start with a 29-point scoring average on the Terriers’ freshman team. Unfortunately, academic challenges led him back to Kingston after a year, but Joseph's passion for basketball never waned. He launched a comeback at Ulster County Community College in 1967-1968. For years he was a staple at the YMCA, he owned and operated restaurants and bars until retiring in 1982. Wings and Fins, The Evergreen, Arties, and his final venture called “Jumpin’ Joe’s.”
Joseph is survived by his children, Keven Conrad and his wife Kristen of Saugerties, Jeffery Friese and his wife Lucy of Mount Holly, NC and Kristine Schade and her husband Dean of Wallkill. His grandchildren, Alissa (Alex) Landra, Ryan Conrad, Ethan Conrad, Anna Conrad, Alaina Conrad, Brittany (Sam) Harrison, Cory (Charlene) Schade, Kyle Schade and his great grandchildren, Ariella Landra and Wyatt Schade. He is also survived by his brother George Uhl and his wife Veronica and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife June Uhl.
