Judith "Judy" Doreen Hakam, 81, of Stoneridge passed away at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital on May 8, 2026. Born April 11, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Sollie and Margaret Eva (Pryzant) Hakam. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her partner Paul Wemp. Judy is survived by her sister Deborah Hakam, sisters-in-law: Cathy Palmer, Anne Palmer, and Sherry Wemp San Filippo, brothers-in-law: Leonard San Filippo, and Gordon Wemp, nieces: Marcy Wemp and Morgan Wemp, and nephews: Carl San Filippo, Richard San Filippo, Matthew Sklansky, Ethan Anderson, Jeffrey Anderson, and Morgan Larsen.

Judy was stricken by multiple health issues in the short several weeks before she succumbed. It was an unbelievable rapid event and total shock to her circle of family and friends.

Judy graduated from Michigan State University in 1966 and continued her education at NYU securing her Masters in Social Work. She worked as a Marriage and Family Counselor for New York State, the City, and at her own private practice until the time of her passing.

She was an avid environmentalist, humanitarian and advocate for animal rights. Her passion and love of horses was a constant throughout her life and her dream of owning her own horse was realized in 2006 when she got her first horse. She's had four horses that she cared for and adored since that time.

Judy crusaded for social justice, equality and world peace throughout her adult life, becoming instrumental in the Democratic Party of Ulster County, working on multiple campaigns helping to elect many Democratic Officials.

In lieu of flowers, we'll be accepting donations to support the care of her beloved horse, Wyatt. These can be made through Deborah's Venmo Account.

Peace be with you Judy. Fly high, fly free. Love flows freely from your giant heart to all whose lives you've touched. Your inspiration shall guide us in our journeys.
