June G. Marks

June G. Marks, 96, Formerly of South Clinton Avenue, died at Golden Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, December 25, 2023. Born in Kingston, July 31, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Catherine Larkin Gakenheimer.

June graduated from Kingston High School in 1944. On June 6, 1944, June started working for the New York Telephone Co. and retired after 27 years. She was a lifetime member of The Telephone Pioneers of America. Her husband, Walter C. Marks, whom she married on October 30, 1948, predeceased her. June was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Kingston.

When she wasn't tending to her garden, June and Walt kept busy volunteering for People's Place, Ulster Literacy, The Children's Home of Kingston and at Golden Hill. She also belonged to a clowning group, entertaining at nursing homes and charitable events.

June is survived by her son, Daniel W Marks and daughter-in-law Marlene Tuma and her daughter, Susan A. Marks and son-in-law Matthew Landolt, two step grandchildren and a step great grandson.Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

June's siblings Joan Werner and Jay R. Gakenheimer predeceased her.

Until the passing of Walter in 2004, they enjoyed many trips in the U. S.,  and to Canada and Europe.
When June became a resident at Golden Hill in 2016 she continued to spread her sunshine among the staff and other residents.  June took advantage of any activity that was taking place and could often be found working on a jigsaw puzzle in her spare time.  She especially enjoyed walks around the grounds of Golden Hill.

The family would like to express their gratitude the Golden Hill staff for their excellent care and kindness to her. Donations in her memory can be made to The People's Place, 17 St. James St. in Kingston or The Ulster County SPCA, 20 Weidy Rd., Kingston.
