Karl Schintone

Karl Schintone 78 , resident of Ulster Park passed away on New Year's Day 2026;  Cause of death: FSHD , pneumonia,  and throwing caution to the wind.

Karl spent his early life living with his grand parents in Saugerties. There he formed lifelong friendships, friends that became family.  At age 18, he joined the Army stationed in Fairbanks Alaska, serving as part of the Recovery and Evac crew. He remained a PFC for his entire military career, enjoying only temporary promotions, before disciplinary actions reset him to PFC.

After three years of army service, Karl  worked as a residence manager for Pine Grove school, a private facility serving developmentally disabled children from the tri-state area.  He later became a resident manager at Granite House (ICMFR). After almost 10 years working for the State of New York, he transitioned into house painting and general contracting. After a brief stint as a the Real estate agent, he chose to focus on  raising his son while refurbishing houses.

Karl built his family home with his own two hands, the help of his wife, family and friends. He was a voracious reader, sharp-witted, and remarkably intelligent, despite having no formal education beyond a GED. An avid cook, he generously shared his culinary creations, including jellies, jams, maple syrup, and many other delights. He loved playing poker with his friends, fishing and golfing, until FSHD made his already unusual swing impossible. He will forever be fiercely missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Marianne Albamont, son John, numerous nieces and nephews, sister Nina, two estranged daughters Samantha and Jodie, whose children and grandchildren he never met.

Memorial services will be held at the Ulster County Veterans Cemetery at New Paltz Rural Cemetery on May 2, 2:30pm - please contact the family by 04/17 if you plan to attend.
