Kathleen Ann Thibault, 69 , of Highland, died Monday September 9, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by all seven of her children and many of her grandchildren, a legacy of which she was immeasurably proud. Born September 8, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Raymond Murphy and Ethel (Perkins) Swing.
Kathy worked for New Paltz Central School District as a cafeteria worker, where she always liked to make time for the children who needed a little extra attention. When she wasn't at work, she most enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and making her home and garden beautiful and cozy.
She was sharp-tongued, sharp-witted and wickedly funny, and she loved her family with infinite fierceness. She taught her children and grandchildren the deep values of love and loyalty, of living life with strength and integrity, and of the need to speak up and speak out to right wrongs and to make the world a better place. A spunky feminist, she would happily engage anyone, literally ANYONE, in a political debate, and she would have been here telling us all who to vote for in November.
Kathy is survived by her children: Tara Thibault-Edmonds and her husband Ziheem, Stacy Shepard and her husband Paul, Joshua Thibault and his wife Laura, Johanna Jones and her husband Geoffrey, Dylan Thibault, Matthew Thibault and Jesse Thibault and his wife Jeeae; her grandchildren: Olivia, Mikaila, Jonah, Kaya, Maddox, Reyna, Cameren, Noah, Sophia, Phaedra, Eugene, Yoomin, and Yuna; her sister-in-law Constance Murphy; and her nephews David Murphy, Daniel Murphy and wife Vannessa, Ethan Murphy and wife Kathy, and James Murphy and wife Emily.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Robert C. Thibault; and her brothers, Raymond, Richard, Kevin and David Murphy.
