Lawrence Hagen Hoy , aka Larry the Legend, passed away on Wednesday, December 10th, in the Bronx—not far from his favorite place, Yankee Stadium. He was born on December 7th, 1977, on his mom's birthday, and left us three days after turning 48 (down half a thumb).
Larry lived in Pawling for his first few years before moving to Kingston, where he resided most of his life, with brief time spent in Trenton, NJ, and Charleston, SC. In his work, he held various jobs, many of which had him working in kitchens or behind the wheel of a truck.
He is survived by his son, Larry Hoy; his stepson David Kish; his mother, Judi Wolfeil; his sisters, Kelley (Jamie) DeGasperis and Tracey (Arian) Quimbo; his grandmother Janice Wolfeil; his nieces Lauren (Jordan) DeGasperis and Keira Quimbo; his nephews Jimmy (Joanna) DeGasperis, Dylan DeGasperis, Kai Quimbo, and Kaden Quimbo; as well as three great-nephews and one great-niece. He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Hoy; his stepfather Bruce Wolfeil; and his grandfathers, Archie Nelson and Frank Wolfeil.
Larry was a devoted fan of the Yankees (with a tattoo to prove it), the Giants (sorry for this season, Lar), and the Knicks. He was known for his spot-on impressions and his love of speaking Spanish, which he learned on his own with the help of friends. A great cook, Larry enjoyed impressing his family and friends with a delicious meal. His friends were the recipients of countless hilarious videos of Larry, in which he filmed himself singing, dancing, and lip-syncing. As he often said, 'You can't say hilarious without Larry'.
Family and friends will be received at Leahy Funeral Home on Friday, December 19th, from 6:00–7:30 p.m., with a short service beginning at 7:30 p.m.
