Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 31st from 4-7 PM.

A Home Going Celebration will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.

Lawrence D. Johnson, Sr. 85, of Kingston passed away Thursday January 25, 2024. He was born June 7, 1938 in Kingston, a son of the late Andrew and Myrtle (Wright) Johnson.

He was a 1956 graduate of Kingston High School where he excelled in track and basketball. Larry was a combat veteran who served our country in the United States Marine Corps for 13 years during the Vietnam War and had an honorable discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). He received many awards and achievements including the Bronze Star with V, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Award.

Larry bowled in many local leagues for over fifty years and was inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame in 2013. One of his greatest joys was to travel to tournaments with the numerous friends he made while bowling.

Mr. Johnson worked for the United States Post Office until his retirement in 1985.

Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of forty eight years Rhonda (Grimes) Johnson, two beloved sons Lawrence D. Johnson, Jr., Lionel Johnson and his wife Ann, and an adored granddaughter Sabine Johnson all of Kingston. One brother Ronald A. Johnson and his wife Gayle of Port Ewen also survive. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings Leo Johnson, Margaret Jackson, Charlotta Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Egbert Johnson, Charles W. Johnson, Sr., Lorraine McArthur, Ramon H. Johnson, Sr., Hilda Johnson, and Barbara Brown.
