Linda Cahill, 69 , of Highland and formerly of Kingston, passed away on May 28, 2025 at Vassar Hospital after a several-month long battle with cancer. Born on December 30, 1955 as an only child, she was the daughter of the late Donald McConnell and Catherine McConnell (Kaznowski) and will be remembered as a loving wife, dedicated mother, caring grandmother and an active member of the community.
After growing up with fond memories of life with her cousins on Old Flatbush Road, Linda graduated from Kingston High School in 1973, a year early to finish with her then boyfriend, Thomas Cahill, whom she married soon thereafter on December 20, 1974. In her early adulthood, she worked in various roles before settling down at IBM. In her 30s, she left the workforce and became a mother, serving her family as a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters, Christina and Caylena. She enjoyed various hobbies, including showing her Australian Terrier dogs in dog shows with the American Kennel Club, volunteering as the leader for her daughters' Girl Scouts troops and as the regional treasurer, avid couponing, taxiing her children around to various events/activities, hosting family and friends pool days at her childhood home, kicking back in her chaise lounge on the deck with her big sunglasses to read the paper, supporting her husband's bands, and her weekly girl's night at the diner. Throughout her life her Polish heritage played an important role in holidays, including traditional foods for Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. She eventually returned to work the remainder of her career as a bookkeeper for DiStasi, Moriello and Murphy Law PLLC in Highland and sent her children off to college. Linda became a grandmother in 2014 and again 2016, and enjoyed her regular babysitting, her nickname, "Grandma Happy" and her eventual reputation for "Grandma's ziti" and brownies. In December 2024, Linda and Tom celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Linda is survived by her husband, Thomas Cahill, her daughters, Caylena Cahill (36), and Christina Hotaling (39) and husband, Curt Hotaling, and her grandchildren Henry and Harrison Hotaling and her various cousins.
