Louis E. Egbertson

Louis E. Egbertson , 91, of Shokan passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024 at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. Born on August 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Harold and Mattie (Townsend) Egbertson. A lifelong resident of Ulster County, he was born and grew up in Kingston where he attended Kingston High School, graduating in 1950. He had a beautiful tenor voice and was active in the school choir.

Louis served our country in the Air Force from 1953 to 1958, and was stationed in Tillamook, Oregon and in Libya. The GI bill enabled him to obtain a Bachelor of Arts as an Education major from Hartwick College.

Louis married the love of his life, Charlotte Schneider, of Rosendale, NY, with whom he shared a 64 year marriage, living in Shokan, NY.

Louis spent his life guiding others. He was a business teacher at Onteora High School for 28 years. He was also very active in Boy Scouts Troop 63 for his son when he was a scout. He was a dedicated son, husband, and father and excelled in all those roles.

Louis enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting, with a particular fondness for fishing. Fishing took Louis everywhere from a boat in the Ashokan reservoir to the Esopus Creek and Hudson River to the ocean. He enjoyed trout fishing and fly tying. Louis was also an avid golfer, spending much of his time at Green Acres Golf Club right up to 90 years old. He was very fond of fixing and mending things to extend their useful life, and invented aids to help himself continue golfing despite some physical barriers.

In addition to his wife, Louis is survived by his children: Melissa Egbertson, and her husband Harold Selnick, and Daniel Egbertson. Louis is also survived by his grandchildren: Matthew Selnick and Aaron Selnick.
