Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday May 31st from 6-8 PM and at the New Progressive Baptist Church- 8 Hone Street Kingston on Saturday from 11 AM until 12 noon.

A Homegoing Celebration will take place at 12 noon.

Maggie Lucinda Burris was born on May 29, 1935 and entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 10, 2024. One of four children born to Rose and Lewis Jackson, Maggie grew up in Kingston, New York where she would reside her entire life. She attended Kingston High School and married John Burris in 1953. Four children were born through this union.

At an early age, Maggie gave here life to Christ. She developed a love of music and learned to play the piano and organ. She served as organist at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Kingston for over 15 years, and directed a youth choir and the young adult choir, the Joyfulettes. Maggie served as organist for several churches, often traveling many miles to provide music at churches in Beacon, Highland Falls and Poughkeepsie. She was always willing to serve and did so well into her senior years.

She was employed by the Ulster County Department of Social Services, Children Services Unit for over 30 years. She retired from this position in the 1990s. Maggie was a loving and protective mother and grandmother, always willing to give support to all her children whenever she was able.

Maggie is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Rose Jackson; her siblings – Martha Jackson Riggins, Essie Moseley and beloved brother, June Jackson. Also preceding her in death are her son, Ronald Burris, grandson, Kyle Hazell, Jr., a granddaughter, Sierra Burris and great-grand children, Lucky Edwards, and Davonte Burris, as well as her beloved best friends, Annie Jackson and Irene Roudis.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Terri V. Burris, John (Dickie) Burris, Jr., and Eugene Burris. Her grandchildren: Tymika Hazell, Alisha Hazell, Monique Burris, Ronnie Burris, Jr., Kelly Jones, Matt Moon, Adrienne, Brian and Kai Burris, Alexis, Xavier and Jonathan Burris; Marisa Edwards (Earl), Kristina Burris, Deresha Dunn (Fred); three nieces, Michelle Burris, Junie Jackson and Rose Jackson, a great niece, Ebony Burris, a nephew, Dennis Moseley, Jr., 12 great-grand children, as well as a host of friends.

Rest in eternal peace, Maggie. You will be greatly missed by your family. We know we will see you again on the other side.
