October 25, 1928 - December 5, 2023

We are saddened by the death of Marvin Eisenberg of Kingston, NY, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at the  age of 95 after a short illness.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 25, 1928, and came to Kingston via Cincinnati, OH, Minneapolis, MN, Chicago, IL, Cleveland, OH, NYC and Rifton, NY.

He was a proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School.

Marvin studied geology and worked in scientific writing and consulting.  He was also a bookbinder specializing in restoration.  The collections he helped restore included the FDR and the Vanderbilt collections, the NY Botanical Gardens library, the Winterthur collection, and the Colonial Williamsburg collection.  His most meaningful employment was teaching science in Poughkeepsie High School.  For years he served on the Kingston and Port Ewen Library boards, was active in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Council, and was the founder and first president of the NYSUT Retiree Council 13.

Marvin was a source of friendship and advice for innumerable friends and relatives and will be sorely missed.

He was predeceased by his daughter Lenore Karen Eisenberg, his brother Ted Eisenberg, and his grandson-in-law Ofir Levi.

Marvin is survived by a large and loving family:
His wife Jane, his children Joan Rachel Shapiro (David) and Peter Eisenberg, his grandchildren Tzippy Levi, Natti Shapiro (Amit), Moshe Shapiro (Michal), Meir Shapiro (Ayala), Elisheva Bauer (Hod), eighteen great grandchildren, his niece Susan (Angie) and nephew Richard (Margherita).  All, including the great grandchildren, were privileged to have a meaningful relationship with Marvin.

The funeral will be held in the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral  Home in Kingston, NY on Thursday, December 7 at 11 am.  His daughter will sit Shiva in Israel in her Kibbutz Beerot Yitzchak.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hudson Valley Hospice whose assistance allowed Marvin to die peacefully and without pain.
