Mary G. Roach, 87, of the Town of Ulster died Tuesday October 31, 2023, at Northern Dutchess Hospital, after being visited by family and friends over several days. Born June 4, 1936, in Newburgh, New York, she was the daughter of the late Francis X. Gallagher and Anne Gately Gallagher.

Mary attended Mount Saint Mary's Academy in her hometown before graduating from Marymount Junior College in Arlington, Virginia.

After completing her education, she worked in New York City. One of her employers was the Ford Modeling Agency where she worked as a model.

Mary married Charles C. Roach II on February 6, 1960, in Newburgh, NY and they enjoyed their honeymoon in The Bahamas

Mary was the owner of Three French Hens, a yarn and knitting retail store, located on Sawkill Road below her husband's family farmstead. She devoted her time to teaching friends the art of knitting with some successful and some not so successful endeavors though all involved had many laughs.

In addition, Mary worked for several years in the fabric department at Britt's Department Store in the Kingston Plaza.

Mary was very talented in Arts and Crafts and had a keen sense of decorating. Her home on Cherry Hill always had a homey feel with her eclectic decorative sense that ranged from nautical to natural habitat themes and influences. She created many pieces that filled the household with love and charm. Many of her watercolor paintings depicted geese floating near lakeshores.

Mary is survived by her sons, Charles C. "Neil" Roach Jr (Debra)., of Tempe, Arizona and John A. Roach of the Town of Ulster. Her brother Edward F.X. Gallagher (Cornelia) and many nieces and nephews and extended family also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles C. "Chuck" Roach, and her sister Anne "Nan" Galvin (William).

Mary will be deeply missed by family, friends, and acquaintances. Her faithful generosity touched many lives, and all will cherish her wonderful sense of humor.
