Melvin T. Higgins

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00 PM.

A graveside service will be held at the Saint Mary's Cemetery at 3:30 PM.

Melvin Thomas Higgins passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024 at HealthAlliance Hospital. Born in Brooklyn on December 2, 1946, he was a son of Edna Melvin Higgins and Thomas Higgins.

Mel graduated from Kingston High School in 1964. He went on to graduate from Bard College and Albany Law School in 1971. Melvin was a successful attorney practicing in the supreme, county,family and justice courts for more than fifty years. He will be missed by his family, his friends and colleagues in the legal community. Mel has been described "as a man of many words" He had a large sense of humor. His leisure time was spent vacationing, camping, sitting and appreciating Kingston Point or a visit to The model railroad club.

He is survived by his wife, Janet K. Higgins, his daughters, Meghan Williams (Josh), Sheri Williams VanDunk (Carl), and son, Shawn Williams. Grandchildren Isabella, Adrianna, Mason, Paul Kevin, Shelby, Zoe, Regina, Kayla, Shawn Michael, Alexis, Jacqueline and Travis and seven great grandchildren. Mel also leaves behind his good friends and neighbors, Mark and Darlene (also known as wife #2) Snyder and a dear friend James Whalen.

In addition to his parents, his daughter Karen Howe, brother Michael, predeceased him.
